“Kabana” is a small-scale architecture initiative, situated within the agricultural enclave of Colonato on Santiago Island, Cabo Verde. This project is centred around traditional construction methods, harnessing the local climate, integrating renewable energy sources, advocating for cost-effective production methods, recycling materials and prioritising ecological harmony.
The small two-room-cabin within the green landscape will be housing one to two people. The kitchen as well as the sanitary infrastructures are in seperate spaces outside and well integrated within the environment of the Sahelian semi-arid climate zone and will include experimental construction techniques made of recycled materials such as wood and glass.
The Swiss architectural education combined with indigenous knowledge and styles will be an experimental fusion of two different worlds complementing each other.
